NOT A CLICHÉ

To Believers

“You’re powerful”, “You’re not ordinary”, “The Holy Spirit lives big in you”; we jump and scream in excitement almost every time we hear statements like these. The euphoria of the entire moment catches up with almost every man in the room and there’s an expression of Joy. It’s massive and it’s real.

Then we step out.

We step out of that seemingly ‘controlled’ environment; where we have people that can always adequately ‘charge us up’, there are more people of like minds to encourage us to do more, ‘there’s ginger’.

We step out into ‘the real world’.

One where we are hit by tangible truths, things we can better relate with; concrete things; where the Bus Conductor with body odor forgot to give you your bus fare change, where you spend most of your day in between boring lectures, you have tons of assignments and several books to read, your boss at work gives you a tough time. Life seems fast, oh my, you forgot to read your Bible this morning again, you were running quite late, so you muttered in tongues just for a moment before dashing out.

It’s Sunday again.

WHATSAPP STATUS UPDATE:

(Before Church Service)

“I was glad when they said, let us go into the house of the Lord”.

(After Church Service)

WHATSAPP PHOTO STATUS UPDATE:

Tag: “Jesus looks good on me. Church was dope!”.

The Cycle Continues.

PAUSE.

WAIT.

RELAX.

CHILL.

Let’s talk.

Remember all what we rejoiced about? – It’s not a cliché!

Remember all what we were taught from The Word? – It’s not a cliché!

Remember your commitment to be more deliberate about spiritual things? – You were serious!

Nothing changed!

Then what happened?

Simple! – We ‘stepped out’ in our minds.

The Holy Spirit DEFINITELY didn’t go on holiday, we didn’t become ‘less spiritual’, we just became less conscious of who we are, WHOSE we are and WHO we carry.

1 Corinthians 2:12 – Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; THAT WE MIGHT KNOW the things that are freely given to us of God.

The tone and content of majority of the prayers made in the Epistles was for the Believer to KNOW; not necessarily to have things, but to know the things he has freely received of God.

See these:

Ephesians 1:17-18

[17] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: [18] The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; THAT YE MAY KNOW what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.

Ephesians 3:16-19

[16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; [17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [18] MAY BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; [19] AND TO KNOW the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Philippians 1:9 – And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and MORE IN KNOWLEDGE and in all judgment.

Colossians 1:9-10

[9] For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire THAT YE MIGHT BE FILLED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; [10] That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.

Philemon 1:6 – That the communication of thy faith may become effectual BY THE ACKNOWLEDGING of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

You see!

A call to KNOW!

Many times we can get distracted; life always presents alternatives. Our minds always suggest other options; quick fixes. But guess what, you’re led by The Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). You have the ability to choose His leading over every natural thought pattern. Your mind is your responsibility; we are instructed in God’s Word to Renew it. You’re in charge!

Romans 12:1-2

[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] AND BE NOT CONFORMED to this world: BUT BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

See that?

God leads us primarily in His Word and by His Spirit!

There are never any new methods! – It’s all the SAME.

The instructions are simple and constant.

Like I said, you’re in charge. The whole ‘vibe’ from Sunday can run through your entire week and never stop! It’s simple!

We are to:

  • Stay consistent in studying the word (1 Timothy 4:13-16, 2 Timothy 2:15).
  • Pray at all times, especially in the Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:15, Jude 20).
  • Be committed to a local assembly (Hebrews 10:24-25).
  • Submit ourselves to be ‘discipled’ by ministry gifts and other mature believers (Ephesians 4:11-12, 2 Timothy 2:2).

This is how we stay sharp all week long; this is how we keep our minds in check. It’s very important you’re accountable to other believers! Pick your friends, move with people that stir up your passion for spiritual things; iron sharpens iron! (Proverbs 27:17).

See how the writer of Hebrews puts it:

Hebrews 10:24-25

[24] AND LET US CONSIDER ONE ANOTHER TO PROVOKE UNTO LOVE AND TO GOOD WORKS: [25] NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

You see!

So you can stay focused, fellowship can be so much sweeter!

You’re in control! – Put yourself in the right ‘atmosphere’ at all times; Listen to the Teachings of Ministry Gifts, laugh and rejoice in the spirit regularly, listen to Christ-Centered songs, pray in Tongues always, study more, memorize scriptures and meditate on them.

Grace has been given; It’s your responsibility to grow in it! (1 Peter 2:2).

I’m sure this has blessed you!

Enjoy God!

  1. Sir, this is simple and apt. This is a must read for every Saint. We can be strong all day, all week because God wants us to. This is timely. Thank you so much sir. I am sure gonna realign my priorities and keep placing premium on spiritual things.
